DEFECT
Defect is a crypto art conference that challenges the hyper-sterile aesthetics of the Web3 world. Set in Kyiv, Ukraine, the project explores a different visual language for crypto - messy, expressive, and a bit absurd.
Instead of clean gradients and minimalist icons, Defect celebrates imperfection, glitch, and humor. This case showcases two promotional posters that mix Renaissance art, cartoonish doodles, and blockchain satire to provoke curiosity and double-takes.

Before designing, I immersed myself in both the crypto world and anti-design movements. I explored memes, NFT art, street visuals, Renaissance paintings, and glitch aesthetics. The goal was to find a visual sweet spot that feels chaotic but intentional - weird, but not random.

I created two poster variants that riff on classical art and modern crypto absurdity.
The first reframes Van Gogh: torn paper, chrome rings, and cartoon eyes/lips turn a canonical portrait into an intentionally “defective” crypto‑era mash‑up. The second reimagines the Mona Lisa with crypto iconography and a smeared, broken expression. Typography was distorted to look “defective,” and design elements were duplicated or misaligned to reflect the theme.
