UGLY DUCK
Ugly Duck is an underground cocktail bar that embraces the charm of imperfection. Tucked away below street level in Kyiv, it invites rule-breakers, night owls, and curious creatives to discover a space where rough concrete meets velvet booths and neon glows against brick walls. Our brief was to build a brand identity that feels as mischievous as the venue itself - bold, irreverent, and a little off-beat, but still refined enough to sit comfortably alongside the city’s high-end dining scene. From the name and storytelling to the logomark, packaging, and spatial graphics, every touchpoint had to reassure guests that it’s “good to be ugly.”

Logo Brief & Objectives
Logo Brief & Objectives
This logo was built around contrast: minimal, yet bold; offbeat, yet refined. The duck’s head growing from a cocktail glass makes for an odd, slightly absurd shape — but that’s exactly what makes it stick. The typography blends seamlessly into the form, letting the name and the symbol become one.

It started with quick pencil sketches, playing around with how a duck shape could fit into a cocktail glass. After lots of tries, a simple, one-line icon came together: a duck’s head floating in a coupe glass, with its neck following the curve of the rim. The wordmark was drawn to match — a bit uneven on purpose, to keep the slightly weird, playful feel.
The final logo system includes versions for different sizes, clear spacing rules, and black-and-white colors for strong contrast. Everything’s set up for print, digital, and signage — so Ugly Duck can show up anywhere and still feel like itself.
